Christian narrowly misses 200-meter final at Olympics

BEIJING -- Former Longhorn Brendan Christian posted a 20.29 in the second heat of the 200-meter semifinals to finish ninth at the 2008 Beijing Olympics on Tuesday. Christian, who competes for Antigua, finished fifth in his heat by .04 seconds. The top four finishers in each heat advanced to the finals.
Christian, who reached the quarterfinals at the 2004 Athens Olympics, started the 2008 Games by finishing second in heat eight on Monday. He posted a 20.58, which tied for the ninth-fastest time heading into the quarterfinals.
Then, Christian blazed a 20.26 in the quarters to win the third heat. He advanced to the semifinals with the second-fastest time before bowing out in the semifinals.
Up next for the men's track and field team, Trey Hardee will open up competition in the decathlon on Thursday, Aug. 21.
