AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas women's soccer team remained undefeated on the 2008 season, drawing 0-0 with Arizona State in double overtime Sunday afternoon at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Senior keeper Dianna Pfenninger recorded a save with three seconds left to leave the game tied at zero. ASU's Karin Volpe fired the ball toward the upper left corner but Pfenninger deflected it over the cross bar to save the tie and keep the Horns' 20-game home unbeaten streak alive.
Both teams started the match on the attack with ASU firing two shots on goal in the first five minutes, both saved by Pfenninger. The Sun Devils had a legitimate chance to get on the board with their second shot but the Longhorn keeper got her hand underneath the shot to parry it over the bar.
Texas senior Stephanie Logterman paced the Longhorns during the first half, firing three shots, two of which were on goal. Five different Longhorns registered shots over the first 45 minutes as UT outshot the Sun Devils 9-4.
The second half played to the same tune as the first with both teams putting pressure on the other's backline. UT's chances picked up late in regulation starting with a Kasey Moore free kick in the 76th minute that was barely blocked by the ASU defense. Just four minutes later, freshman Courtney Goodson's opportunity was saved by ASU keeper Briana Silvestri.
Freshman Amanda Lisberger had the best look for UT, when she came up on a one-on-one with the keeper in the lower left corner of the six-yard box. Lisberger pulled Silvestri out of the net and sent it to the center of the box but no one was there to connect.
Both squads had chances to put the game away in the two overtime periods, but neither could capitalize. Pfenninger recorded five saves in the match and helped Texas record its fourth shutout of the season.
Texas leaves Austin for the first time in two weeks to face TCU in Fort Worth on Friday, Sept. 19. The match is set for 7 p.m. Central at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

POST-MATCH QUOTES
SENIOR GK Dianna Pfenninger
On her crucial save at the end of the game: It's my job. I definitely wasn't going to let them come in during the last few seconds of the game and take the game from us. I just did my best to keep the ball out of the net. Some days it goes my way and some days it doesn't, but today it went my way.
On free kicks and defending a crowded box: It could have been difficult but my defense was solid and I knew they had my back the whole time. If I couldn't get out to the ball I knew I could count on them.
On the play of the backline: We have a solid back line and we are good defending all over the field. We need to be better with possession and getting the ball forward. We are looking for not only a shutout but two wins next weekend.
HEAD COACH Chris Petrucelli
On overall view of the game: We were solid defensively and I just think that we need to improve when we are moving the ball forward; we give the ball away a little too much. The experience is more to the back, the youth is more to the front, so it's a work in progress.
On Dianna's performance: She has been solid all year and until we can get our offense revved up, we are going to need her to be good.
