FORT WORTH, Texas -- University of Texas senior Stephanie Logterman connected on a Courtney Gaines cross in the 105th minute to lift UT past TCU, 2-1, in double overtime Friday night at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. UT (6-0-1) captured its third double-overtime victory of the season in front of the second-largest crowd in TCU history (2,161).
Gaines, a senior from Houston, dribbled the ball up the right line and playing a perfect left-footed cross to a streaking Logterman, who connected for the golden goal. The score was Logterman's fourth of the season and Gaines tallied her first assist on the year.
Freshman Kylie Doniak got Texas on the board first in the 37th minute, striking the ball from 40 yards out. The ball hit the upper right corner of the goal and bounced off the TCU keeper's back for Doniak's first goal as a Longhorn. UT outshot TCU 4-2 over the first 45 minutes with all four opportunities coming in the final 10 minutes of the period.
The Horned Frogs came out of the 15 minute intermission on fire, netting the equalizer just four minutes into the second half. TCU freshman Jordan Calhoun's goal was similar to Doniak's as it bounced off the upper left corner down into the goal.
In the 68th minute, freshman Courtney Goodson appeared to have given Texas the lead but her goal was called back due to an offsides violation. The intensity quickly picked up with UT recording four legitimate opportunities over the final 20 minutes that were denied by netminder Kelsey Walters and the TCU backline.
Two of those opportunities came at the foot of Logterman over the final two minutes. Her first chance from the top of the 18-yard box was saved by keeper Walters while she played her second opportunity just one touch too far, sending the game to extra minutes.
Both TCU and Texas had chances to end the game in the first 10-minute golden goal period but neither could capitalize forcing the second overtime. The win marked UT's third double-overtime victory this season and was the third straight match that needed extra minutes.
Texas hosts its first ranked opponent in No. 18 California at 1 p.m. Central on Sunday.

POST-MATCH QUOTES
SENIOR DEFENDER Stephanie Logterman
On the atmosphere: It was really tough especially with the environment here. The fans were awesome and came out cheering for us. TCU gave us all we could handle and it took two overtimes to get the job done. It was a really good game.
On playing in the midfield position: I was always attacking-minded when playing defender and was given a lot of freedom to go forward. So I'm doing what I was before, just with a little less defense and starting farther up the field. It's a really good change of pace.
On game-winning goal: I was just so happy that we won really. Whatever it takes to get the ball in the net, I'm happy to do it. It worked out that Courtney [Gaines] played an amazing ball and made it really easy for me to finish it.
On the toughness of the match: It didn't come easy by any means. I think we stayed really positive and were really confident that we'd eventually get the job done, and we did. It's just a tribute to our mental toughness that we could get it done.
HEAD COACH Chris Petrucelli
On TCU's offensive attack: For good portions of the game we were able to keep the ball and keep them away from our goal but they got some opportunities. Overall though I think we were pretty solid in the back. Dianna [Pfenninger] stood up when she had to and I thought the defense played really well.
On Courtney Gaines' game-winning assist: First of all to have the legs left to make a run like that and then to play a left footed ball, which is difficult, right to Log's foot. We had talked about trying to serve those balls to the far post instead of the near post and finally got something out of it.
On the quick turnaround for Sunday's match: We have to get recovered and it's a quick turnaround so we're going to have to do our best to get some rest and be ready to play on Sunday.
On the atmosphere: It seems like it's that way everywhere we go. I feel like everywhere we go, people come to watch, the crowds show up and the other teams play well. It's one of the greatest things about being at Texas.
