AUSTIN, Texas -- Freshman Sophie Campise found the back of the net in the 102nd minute to lift the University of Texas soccer team over Colorado, 1-0, in double overtime Sunday afternoon out at Mike A. Myers stadium. The Longhorns improve to 4-2-3 in Big 12 play and 8-7-3 overall while Colorado falls to 8-9-0 and 5-4-0 in league action.
In what was an even and physical battle between the two squads over the first 100 minutes, Texas came out on the winning end to pick up its first overtime victory since Sept. 19, 2008.
Sophomore Leah Payne started the scoring attack when she sent a long cross from Texas territory into the Colorado box. After the bounce, Campise collected the ball and volleyed it right over CU keeper Kara Linder for the score in the 102nd minute. It was Campise's first goal at Texas and Payne's first career assist.
Neither team was able to put together too many quality looks during regulation with the majority of action taking place in the middle third of the field. In the first overtime, sophomore Amanda Lisberger looked to have put the game away for the Longhorns but her shot attempt bounced off the cross bar.
Texas outshot the Buffs 16-11, including a 6-2 shots on goal advantage. Lisberger led the Horns with three shots, two on frame while freshman keeper Alexa Gaul was forced to make two saves in Texas' second-straight double-overtime contest.
With the victory Texas vaults into a three-way tie for third in the Big 12 Conference with 15 points after entering the match tied for fifth. The Longhorns share the third spot with Oklahoma State and Colorado.
The Horns head to Texas A&M for the State Farm Lone Star Showdown and final regular season match of the year on Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. Central.

POST MATCH QUOTES
Freshman midfielder Sophie Campise
On her first goal of the season: I saw Leah [Payne] crossing it while I was just sneaking in the back. I really wasn't thinking about anything, I just kicked it.
On securing a spot in the Big 12 Championship: It is so exciting. It's my first trip and I can't wait.
On the mindset for Texas A&M this coming Friday: I think that we will focus even more now that we know we have nothing to lose. We just need to go for it and beat them.
On the anticipated excitement for the A&M game: Oh for sure. We are going to be preparing and getting ready for that game.
Senior defender Emily Anderson
On the experience of her last home game: It was really exciting and my team really worked really hard. It was awesome to see everyone pitch in and do their part. Even after playing another overtime game, everyone did their part and it was awesome.
On the want to get a goal at her last game: That was part of our plan though. It depends on the way that teams set up. They gave us the opportunity to go forward, and of course you want a goal, but anyone that scores is okay by me.
On senior day: It was really exciting. I know my parents are really proud, you know it's kind of a day for them as well.
On the upcoming week versus Texas A&M: I'm sure with both overtimes they [coaches] are going to give us plenty of rest, but we are going to be looking at their team, getting our strategy set up, and getting ready to play.
On what to expect from A&M: I know that they are going to bring some intensity. I know that they are already through to the tournament, but just being Texas vs. Texas A&M, they are going to bring their game.
Head Coach Chris Petrucelli
On the overall thoughts of the weekend: Overall I thought we played really well. The biggest thing for us was that our effort was really good. Down two goals on Friday, through two overtime games, and to be able to find the legs to get a goal at the end today is really a big step for a young team.
On the play of goalkeeper Alexa Gaul: She was solid. She has been good all year long, but she keeps getting better. That's the thing about her. If you look at her now compared to when the season started, she is a much better goalkeeper and she has been a real solid player for us.
On the week leading up to A&M: As a young team we need to get better. Every week and training session is important to us, and we expect that the game at College Station will be a difficult game for us. I know that we will go there and play hard for sure.
On Texas A&M: They're talented. They have done well again, traditionally they are very good, and I think that they are very good again. I think we will see a team that is fired up to play against us, as they always are when we head down there, and it's a fun environment to play in. I think it's going to be a really good experience for our young guys.
