AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas Women's Golf team concluded the fall season with a fourth-place finish in the Challenge at Onion Creek. Freshman Katelyn Sepmoree (76-69-70=215, +5) led the Longhorns on the individual leaderboard after posting a team-best 1-under-par over the final two rounds to tie for 18th place.
The Longhorns (288-290-286=864, +24) saved their best performance for the final round by carding a 6-over 286 to help them climb two places on the leaderboard after being tied for sixth place at the conclusion of the second round on Tuesday morning. Play was suspended Monday evening at 6:05 p.m. Central because of darkness, and all 21 teams had up to four holes uncompleted Tuesday morning before the final round could begin.
Sepmoree's second-round 69 included five birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey on the par-70, 5,938-yard Onion Creek North Course. She followed that up with an even-par 70, making a pair of birdies and as many bogeys in the final round.
Senior Shannon Fish played consistently with rounds of 72, 73 and 73, resulting in a tie for 32nd place at 8-over 218. Freshman Madison Pressel (76-71-73) finished tied for 49th place at 10-over 220, and freshman Haley Stephens (69-77-75=221, +11) finished one stroke behind and tied for 53rd. Sophomore Nicole Vandermade (71-83-70=224, +14) rounded out the Longhorns with a tie for 73rd place.
Freshman Desiree Dubreuil (71-74-73) fired a final-round 73 while competing as an individual for UT and finished tied for 32nd place at 8-over 218.

POST-TOURNAMENT QUOTES
Head Coach Martha Richards
On the team's overall performance: As far as the last round goes, I was really pleased. I saw much better golf today. As far as our overall performance in our last fall tournament, it was a tough pill to swallow. We had big goals for this tournament, and we feel like we're a team that is right there to break into the Top 20 and we didn't get it done this week. It's frustrating. On the bright side, though, we're frustrated because of good things. We know we can play with the best teams in the country, and now we're learning to step up and do it every tournament, every day and every shot.
On plans for the offseason: The first thing we're going to do is give everyone some time off. Even though this is the middle of the college golf season, it's the traditional end for a high school golf season. Our freshmen have gone fast and furious this fall, and they need to catch their breath. After the break, we're going to get after it in the weight room. We'll assess what we need to work on in our golf games, and get on that after the holiday break.
On the play of freshman Desiree Dubreuil: It was hard for me not to have Des in the lineup, because she has made huge contributions this fall, and as a coach, I wish I could play six players. What I like about her is that she is very strong emotionally. Not a lot gets to her, and that helps her perform at a high level. She stays calm, cool and collected, and goes about her business. This is a good way for her to end the fall and gives her some good energy going into the offseason.
