PARRISH, Fla. -- University of Texas senior Kristin Walla (81-78-70=229) fired a 2-under-par 70 in the final round of the Central District Invitational and climbed 28 spots on the leaderboard to finish in a team-best tie for 27th place at 13-over 229. As a team, the Longhorns (315-304-306=925, +61) finished in 10th place in their spring debut.
Entering the final round tied for 55th place, Walla made her move on the par-72, 6,099-yard River Wilderness Country Club with four-consecutive pars before making her first of two bogeys on the 18th hole. After making the turn, she found birdie opportunities on the second and fourth holes before bogeying the fifth. She closed the tournament with two birdies in her final three holes - eight and 10 - for her second-lowest single-round score of the season.
Freshman Nicole Vandermade (78-75-78=231, +15) began her final round on the 11th hole and carded two bogeys, a birdie and her second double-bogey of the tournament on the 18th hole to make the turn at 3-over. Bogeys on the second, fourth and seventh holes resulted in a 6-over 78, and Vandermade finished tied for 36th at 15-over.
Junior Shannon Fish (78-75-79=232, +16) finished one stroke behind Vandermade and tied for 41st at 16-over 232. Seniors Kelley Louth (79-78-79=236, +20) and Caney Hines (80-76-81=237, +21) rounded out the Texas squad in ties for 49th and 52nd places.
Auburn (284-295-303=882, +18) maintained its 36-hole lead and led the 15-team field at 18-over 882.
LSU (292-297-296=885, +21) and Purdue (305-286-297=888, +24) finished second and third, respectively.
The Longhorns will remain idle until Saturday, Feb. 28, when they host Texas State in a dual match at The University of Texas Golf Club.

POST-ROUND QUOTES
Head Coach Martha Richards
On the team's overall performance: Overall, it wasn't as strong as a start as we wanted for the spring season, but the things we've been working on in the off season are starting to pay off. As we continue to work on those things, our scoring will get better as the spring progresses. Our scoring wasn't where we wanted it to be, but I'm encouraged by what I saw. We're just going to keep plugging along.
On the play of Walla and Vandermade: Kristin Walla played great today. She stayed very poised and calm and hit some great shots to make all of her birdies. Nicole had another good ball-striking day, and was close to shooting a low number. I was pleased with a lot of what I saw in regards to Wally and Nicole.
