POSTGAME QUOTES
HEAD COACH Connie Clark
General thoughts on the weekend: I thought we competed exceptionally well. It was nice to trade blow with UTEP. They are a very good hitting ball club that competes very well. I thought we were as good pitch-to-pitch as I have seen us this year. I think our focus was just tremendous.
On Loryn Johnson's weekend: Coming into her junior year she really has some good experience now. She has always been someone that is consistent for us, but she is extremely hot right now and it was amazing to see her come to the plate as often as she did. The hitters in front of her did a nice job of setting the table and giving her some RBI opportunities. She was just seeing the ball tremendously well this weekend.
On the pitching staff: I think we are still trying to find ourselves as a pitching staff, but we still need to focus on what we are doing well. (Brittany) Barnhill started yesterday and as much as she didn't want to come out of the game, she actually had a very good outing in regards to the things she is progressing on. Torrey (Schroeder) has been very consistent for us as of late and she did a nice job of making adjustments throughout the game today. We talked with her and (Amy) Hooks beforehand and took yesterday's notes out on the field and played chess with their hitters. Erin Tresselt did a great job for us in both games yesterday. I can't say enough about how good she (Tresselt) is mentally. I trust her 100-percent because she can come into tough situations and be very calm. It is nice to see everyone's roles developing.
On Courtney Craig: Courtney brings speed to our lineup. She had some minor medical things early on in the season and now she is back to 100-percent. She is another one of our stellar freshman that we felt like was going to come in and be a difference maker. We have tried to keep her patient as she builds over these initial 15 games. She has stayed the course and now she is getting her opportunities. She runs very well and she is very instinctual.
JUNIOR 2B Loryn Johnson
On her weekend: I felt like I was seeing the ball really well and I was swinging at good pitches and working the count. I thought I knew where to hit the ball and just go with where the ball was pitched.
On breaking or tying three school records: The records really aren't that important to me. I just want to do what I can to help my team each game. Whatever happens, happens. Other people have to be on base for me to get RBI so it is really a team thing.
On the importance of the three-game sweep: I think it was really important for us to come in and get a sweep against UTEP. It showed us a lot. We scored a lot of runs and put up a lot of hits and that really gives us confidence throughout the lineup.
