ROME -- Texas-Ex Troy Dumais finished strong in his final two dives to vault himself from fourth place to a silver-medal finish in the men's three-meter springboard event Thursday at the 2009 FINA World Championships.
Dumais (Ventura, Calif.) collected his fourth career silver medal at the FINA World Championships, as he took second with 498.40 points. China's He Chong, the gold medalist in the three-meter event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, won gold by edging Dumais with 505.20 points. Canada's Alexandre Despatie won the bronze with 490.30 points.
Dumais led the 12-diver competition after his first two dives and stood in fourth place after four dives. His fifth dive, a reverse, three-and-a-half somersault tuck that garnered 94.50 points, proved to be the highest scoring dive among the 72 dives executed during the competition, and it lifted him into third place. Dumais totaled 87.50 points on his sixth and final dive to pass Canada's Despatie and win the silver medal.
Dumais won a silver medal earlier in the meet in the men's three-meter synchronized diving competition.
