BERKELEY, Calif. -- The University of Texas soccer team fell 4-2 to No. 14/16 California Sunday afternoon at Edwards Field. Sophomore Courtney Goodson netted both scores for the Horns for the second multi-goal match of her career. The Bears used three second half goals in a span of 10 minutes to move the Longhorns to 1-3-0 on the season.
Goodson scored her first goal in the 69th minute when she was able to head in a free kick sent by junior Niki Arlitt. It was Goodson's first goal of the season while Arlitt picked up her second assist of the year.
The sophomore forward struck again in the 75th minute. Goodson connected from 20 yards out with her left foot when her free kick was rebounded right back to her.
Cal got on the board 23 minutes into the match off a corner kick. The Bears' Megan Jesolva sent the ball into the Longhorn box and after Alex Morgan's attempt was blocked, Brianna Bak was able to knock the ball past UT keeper Shaine Millheiser for the 1-0 advantage.
Miranda White put the Bears up 2-0 in the 49th minute of the second half when Lisa Kevorkian sent the ball into White in the center of the box, who slipped it past Millheiser for the score. Just under four minutes later Cal got on the board again with a goal from Alex Morgan. Morgan received the ball from Katrin Omarsdottir and fired it into the upper left corner of the net.
The Bears recorded their fourth goal just two minutes later when Katie Oakes connected on a corner and had her shot hit the cross bar and bounce into the back of the net to put the Bears up 4-0.
Goodson became the first Longhorn to score two goals in a match since she did it a year ago in a 2-1 overtime victory over Arizona on Sept. 7, 2008.
The Longhorns return to Austin next weekend for home matches against Louisville (Fri., Sept. 11) and Kentucky (Sun, Sept. 13).
