Roberson's career-night paces No. 10 Volleyball to sweep of Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Junior outside hitter Amber Roberson hammered out a career high 19 kills to lead the No. 10 Texas Volleyball team to a 3-0 win at Kansas, Wednesday night. The 29-27, 25-21, 25-17 improved the Longhorns to 13-5 on the year and 8-2 in Big 12 play and extended UT's win streak to five matches, while the Jayhawks fell to 13-8 overall and 4-6 in league action.
Roberson led the way with her .395 hitting effort and added eight digs, while junior middle blocker Rachael Adams connected for 11 kills on .562 hitting. Senior middle blocker Jennifer Doris added 10 kills in the win and senior All-America outside hitter Juliann Faucette chipped in nine kills.
Texas fell behind 7-2 early in the first frame, but bounced back with a 6-1 run capped by a double-block by Adams and sophomore opposite hitter Sha'Dare McNeal to narrow the score to 13-12. Kansas quickly ballooned the lead back to four before Texas began its rally, going on an 8-2 run paced by three kills from Doris to claim a 21-19 advantage. The Jayhawks fought back to tie the set at 23, but Adams responded with a kill to force set point. Kansas regained the advantage, 26-25 and Texas survived two set points before a block and a kill by Faucette propelled the Horns to a 29-27 set win.
In the second set, the Longhorns used three early blocks by Adams to jump out to a quick 6-3 lead. Kansas kept the score tight and evened the tally at 10 before a 6-2 Texas rally headlined by five kills from junior outside hitter Amber Roberson gave UT a 16-12 edge. Two more kills by Roberson widened the gap to 24-18 and a kill by Doris closed out the stanza, 25-21.
The Longhorns leapt out to a 7-2 lead to start the third set, taking advantage of two kills and a block assist by Adams to pace the run. Roberson registered a kill to push the lead to 11-5, but Kansas rallied back to shrink the lead to three at the 13-10 mark. A 4-1 run capped by a triple-block from McNeal, Doris and Roberson gave the Longhorns a 17-11 lead and a 3-0 run allowed UT to push its lead to 23-15. Texas went on to close out the set with kills from Adams and Roberson that ended the frame, 25-17.
Texas returns to action on Friday, Oct. 22 when it plays host to Kansas State at Gregory Gymnasium. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. Central.
