Women's Golf finishes third at Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The University of Texas Women's Golf team closed the fall season with its second-consecutive top-three finish at the Landfall Tradition. The Longhorns' (291-302-297) 54-hole total of 26-over 890 placed them third in the 18-team field that included nine Top 25 programs.
Overall, Texas bested seven teams rated higher in the Oct. 17 edition of the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, including No. 5 Duke, No. 8 Virginia, No. 13 Wake Forest, No. 16 Michigan State, No. 19 Notre Dame, No. 22 South Carolina and No. 23 Oklahoma State. The Longhorns were ranked No. 29 in the most recent standings.
Junior Nicole Vandermade (73-71-76) finished in eighth place at 4-over 220 for her best fall finish, and sophomore Madison Pressel (73-74-74=221) collected her second tie for ninth place in as many tournaments.
Sophomore Haley Stephens recorded UT's low final-round score on the Country Club of Landfall Pete Dye Course with a 1-over 73. Stephens (71-80-73) tied for 17th place at 8-over 224.
Sophomore Katelyn Sepmoree (74-79-78) and junior Megan Rosenfeld (79-78-74) each finished at 231 (+15) and tied for 46th place. Competing in the Texas lineup for the first time in her collegiate career at the No. 5 position, Rosenfeld contributed her second and third rounds to the team score.
UCLA (294-286-300) took team honors at 16-over 880. North Carolina (293-287-305) finished five strokes back in second place.
UT will return to competition on Feb. 13, 2011, at the UCF Challenge in Sorrento, Fla.
