Men's Cross Country finishes fourth at Big 12 Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. -- The University of Texas Men's Cross Country team posted a fourth-place finish at the 2010 Big 12 Cross Country Championships Saturday morning on the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Okla. The Longhorns totaled 127 points for their highest finish since 2007. By finishing ahead of Texas A&M, Texas also earned a point in the annual State Farm Lone Star Showdown.
Freshman Ryan Dohner led the group finishing the 8K race in 25:00.73 and was followed closely by senior Bradley Lowry in 22nd (25:10.47). Redshirt freshman Patrick McGregor crossed the line right after Lowry for 23rd in 25:10.99 while junior Brock Simmons and sophomore Collin Smith rounded out scoring for the Horns finishing in 30th (25:20.23) and 32nd (25:21.49), respectively.
"Well my feeling is that our one, two and three guys from two weeks ago, who are very fit, probably went out a little harder than they should have but I can say that all of the rest of our guys all the way down to our ninth guy really stepped up in an unbelievable way," said assistant coach John Hayes. "That's the important part of having a team and we truly have a team. We have nine guys who were committed to each other and committed to the goals of The University of Texas and being a Longhorn."
Also running for the Longhorns were junior Brian Rhodes-Devey who placed 38th in 25:26.29 and freshman Will Nation who clocked a 25:35.50 for 50th.
Texas only finished fourth to three of the nation's top five teams. No. 2 Oklahoma State won the team title for the third-straight year with 19 points followed by ninth-ranked Colorado (46 points) and fifth-ranked Oklahoma (61 points).
Next, the Texas men will compete at the South Central Region Championships in Waco, Texas on Saturday, Nov. 13.
