Faucette powers No. 7 Volleyball past Texas Tech, 3-1

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The No. 7 Texas Volleyball team used senior All-America outside hitter Juliann Faucette's third-straight match with 24 or more kills to upend Texas Tech, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at United Spirit Arena. Faucette recorded 24 kills on .447 hitting and added seven digs in the Horns 25-12, 22-25, 25-20, 25-16 victory. The Longhorns extended their win streak to 11 matches and improved to 19-5 on the year and 14-2 in Big 12 play, while the Red Raiders fall to 3-23 overall and 1-16 in conference action.
Senior middle blocker Jennifer Doris joined Faucette in double digits with 11 kills on .364 hitting and sophomore opposite hitter Sha'Dare McNeal posted 11 kills on .526 hitting. Senior outside hitter Lauren Dickson totaled a UT career-high eight kills on the day and posted a season-high .381 attack mark to go with her 11-dig effort.
In the first, Texas used two early kills by Faucette to pace a 5-2 set-opening run and Doris added two kills as part of a 7-1 rally that allowed UT to forge ahead, 12-4. A service ace by freshman libero Sarah Palmer allowed the Horns to push the advantage to 19-10 before four late Tech errors and kills by Faucette and Doris lifted Texas to a 25-12 victory.
Texas jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead in the second frame on a double-block by junior middle blocker Rachael Adams and sophomore McNeal. Faucette kept Tech at bay with three kills during a 4-2 run that moved the tally to 15-10, but the Red Raiders did not quit. Texas Tech responded with a 10-2 run highlighted by two kills from Aubree Piper and two aces from Jackie Vincent that gave the Raiders a 20-17 edge. The Longhorns rallied to even the set at 21 and again at 22 before Tech closed out the set, 25-22.
Tech kept the third set tight out of the gate until McNeal headlined a 7-1 Texas run with two kills and an ace to push the UT lead to 15-7. A 4-1 rally by the Red Raiders closed the margin to 17-12, but Faucette responded with four-straight kills to balloon the UT advantage to 21-12. The Red Raiders went on a 7-2 run late in the set, trimming the Horns' lead to 24-20 before Faucette put the exclamation point on the set with her eighth kill of the stanza to propel UT to a 25-20 set win.
The Horns broke a four-all tie early in the fourth with a 5-1 rally paced by a block and a service ace from Faucette to take a 9-5 lead. McNeal capped a 5-2 Texas run with a service ace to extend the edge to 14-9 and recorded her third kill of the set to move the UT lead to 21-14. Freshman middle blocker Haley Cameron notched a kill and a block late in the frame and Dickson connected for her eighth kill to force set point. McNeal went on to close out the set, 25-16 with her 11th kill of the night.
Texas returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 17 when it plays host to Missouri. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. Central.
POST-MATCH NOTES
- Texas' win improved its all-time record against Texas Tech to 70-9-2 and 31-2 in Lubbock. The win marked UT's 20th-straight over the Red Raiders.
- Lauren Dickson recorded a UT career-best eight kills in the win.
- Juliann Faucette recorded her third-straight match with 24 or more kills in the win.
