COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The University of Texas Women's Track and Field team picked up four NCAA provisional marks Saturday afternoon at the Big 12-SEC-Conference USA Challenge held at Texas A&M University.
Redshirt junior Betzy Jimenez posted the fourth-fastest mile in school history with her second-place and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:44.95. The mark was a personal-best for Jimenez and was her second NCAA mark of the year. Sophomore Mia Behm also blazed to a sub-five minute mile with her personal-best time of 4:54.38 for sixth place.
Freshman pole vaulter Natasha Masterson also further etched her name into the UT record books as she cleared 13-5.75 (4.11m) for the second-highest height reached by a Longhorn. Masterson's second-place clearance was her second NCAA provisional height of the season and was just half a foot shorter than her personal-best and school record tying height of 13-6.25 (4.12m). Sophomore Jessica Doyle also scored in the event with her season-best mark of 12-6.75 (3.82m) for sixth.
Junior Chantel Malone took first in the 400m with her personal-best and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 54.27. Senior Jordyn Brown also earned an individual victory with her first-place throw of 50-10 (15.49m) in the shot put. It was Brown's third victory of the year and fourth NCAA provisional mark.
Texas' distance-medley relay of Julie Amthor, Judy Nwosu, Jena Cuellar and Mia Behm finished in a season-best 11:51.59 for second place. A trio of UT distance runners set PRs in the 800m as well in Amthor (2:13.69), Cuellar (2:15.12) and freshman Katie Hoaldridge (2:16.19).
In the high jump, sophomore Victoria Lucas recorded a season-best height of 5-8 (1.73m) for third place.
Next up for the Longhorns is the 2010 Big 12 Indoor Championships on Feb. 26-27 held at the Leid Recreation-Athletic Facility on the campus of Iowa State.

On Betzy Jimenez: I think Betzy is finally starting to come around. I think she could have ran a much faster time today but I think that it's just showing how the hard work is really starting to pay off. I'm happy that Betzy's time that puts her competitive in the school records but my guess is that if she runs the way that her and I know she can, she can have all the school records in the next couple of years.
