AUSTIN, Texas- The Texas cross country program returns to action Friday, October 31st at the SEC Championships in Knoxville, Tennessee. The men's 8k will begin at 10:08 a.m followed by the women's 6k scheduled for 10:52 a.m.
Last season the men finished fourth with 152 points and the women finished fifth with 150 points. Nathanael Berhane finished 29th, Emmanuel Sgouros was 37th and Hudson Heikinen finished 52nd. On the women's side, Elizabeth Pickett finished 16th and Sydni Wilkins finished 46th as the top finishing Horns in their first SEC Championship.
In the Longhorns last competition, freshman Aidan Torres led the men to a fourth-place finish at the Pre National meet finishing 22nd overall with a personal best time of 23:46.2. Hudson Heikkinen and Tadgh Donnelly also set PBs helping secure a Texas finish above No. 22 Arkansas and No. 30 Loyola Chicago. Nathaneal Berhane, Hudson Bennet, Trey Rios and Zain Hamdani were the remaining Longhorns to complete the event.
Pickett led the women's team completing in the 6k with a time of 20:27.8 to finish 40th overall. Sophomore Kaylin Rendon and freshman Lily Fawcett both set PB's in the event finishing in 20:49.6 and 21:28.0, respectively. They were joined by Wilkins, Brighton Mooney, Annie Christie, and Aishling Callanan as the remaining Longhorns that finished the event.
