No. 15 Softball falls to No. 23 Louisville, 3-1

FULLERTON, Calif. -- The No. 15 Texas Softball fell to No. 23 Louisville, 3-1 in its final game of the Judi Garman Classic, Sunday morning. The Longhorns wrapped up the weekend with a 3-2 record and moved its season mark to 23-6, while the Cardinals win improved UL to 19-10 overall.
Senior righthander Erin Tresselt (5-1) was saddled with the loss for the Longhorns after firing a complete game, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out two. Louisville starter Kristen Wadwell (10-6) earned the victory, throwing 7.0 innings, surrendering one run on three hits and fanning nine.
Freshman rightfielder Taylor Hoagland's single through the middle in the third inning extended her current hitting streak to 16 games, equaling the longest in UT history. She is currently tied with Lindsay Gardner's 16-game streak from the 2000 season.
Louisville kicked off the scoring in the first, starting the frame with a one-out double by Vanessa James. A walk put two runners aboard and a Texas error allowed James to come home and give UL a 1-0 edge. The Cardinals tacked on another run in the third, taking advantage of a UT error and a run-scoring double by Alicja Wolny.
Texas got on the board in the third, using back-to-back hit-by-pitches and a single by Hoagland to load the bases with one out. Sophomore third baseman Nadia Taylor was hit by another pitch with the bases juiced, plating senior centerfielder Brittany Chalk who had reached on a HBP.
The Cardinals added an insurance run in the sixth and pushed the lead to 3-1 with of a two-out double by Brittany York and an RBI single by Colby Wherry.
Texas returns to action on Wednesday, March 24 when it travels to Texas State. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. Central.
