Rowing registers four wins in final session of Longhorn Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Rowing team claimed four victories in the final session of the Longhorn Invitational, Sunday morning on Lady Bird Lake. The Horns won the second varsity eight, first varsity four, first novice eight and second novice four races. Texas concluded the weekend with 21 victories in its four sessions.
The Horns' second varsity crew of coxswain Mary Cait McPherson, stroke Stephanie Matejka, Anna Thomson, Katarina Susac, Callie Mattrisch, Jelena Zunic, Tajana Lovric, Sally Tunell and Karli Sheahan knocked off 6:50.30-to-6:57.02.
The first varsity four boat comprised of coxswain Megan Kelly, Colleen Irby, Katrina Cerk, Audrey Ullman and Kaitlin Lewallen registered a time of 7:45.60 to beat Louisville (7:59.67).
UT's first novice boat of coxswain Erin Gamez, Taylor Parker, Madeline Shaw, Callan Wingo, Chelsea Burns, Lyndsey DuBose, Emily Gross, Sarah Pedersen and Jillian Domingue clocked a time of
The Longhorns' second novice four boat posted the last win of the day, downing Iowa 8:07.60-to-8:37.50.
Texas' first varsity eight boat of coxswain Emma Dirks, stroke Charity McDonald, Courtney Nicklas, Meg George, Laurel McCaig, Jacqueline Gorcyca, Nancy Arrington, Jennifer VanderMaarel and Felicia Izaguirre-Werner lost to Louisville, 6:37.0-to-6:41.69.
In the Horns' only other race of the day, Texas' other novice four boats raced one another, posting times of 8:04.90 and 8:07.64.
The Longhorn Invitational is a 2,000 meter dual-style race held annually on Lady Bird Lake. Races on Sunday were aided by a 15-mph tailwind.
Texas returns to action on Saturday, March 27 when it hosts Kansas on Lady Bird Lake.
