AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Women's Golf team (296-306=602, +26) carded an 18-over-par 306 in the second round of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational to drop to a three-way tie for sixth place in the 17-team field. Sophomore Nicole Vandermade (72-76) leads the Horns in a tie for 12th place at 4-over 148, while senior Shannon Fish (70-78) is tied for the same position and leads the Texas 'B' squad.
Wind gusts picked up midway through the afternoon as the Longhorns approached the final six holes of the par-72, 6,255-yard University of Texas Golf Club. As a team, UT played holes 13 through 18 at 17-over par.
Vandermade tied the second-round co-leaders after collecting three-straight birdies on the ninth, 10th and 11th holes to dip to 2-under. Wind affected Vandermade during her closing stretch, though, and resulted in a double bogey on 14, triple bogey on 16 and a bogey on 17.
Freshman Desiree Dubreuil (75-75) put together Texas' low round after carding her second-consecutive 3-over 75. Dubreuil's scorecard included three birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys. The Santa Ana, Calif., native is currently tied for 22nd place at 6-over 150 along with teammate Madison Pressel (72-78).
Freshman Haley Stephens (77-77) is tied for 38th place at 10-over 154, while freshman Katelyn Sepmoree (79-79) is tied for 63rd with a 14-over 158.
UCLA's Stephanie Kono (71-71) and Texas A&M's Sarah Zwartynski (70-72) are knotted atop the individual leaderboard at 2-under 142. Vanderbilt's Marina Alex (73-70) and Stanford's Kristina Wong (71-72) are tied at 1-under 143 for third place, while Arizona's Isabelle Boineau (73-72) holds down fifth place at 1-over 145.
UCLA, Arizona and Texas A&M broke away from the field on Saturday. Top-ranked UCLA (295-290) maintained its first-round lead with a 2-over 290 and improved to 9-over 585 through 36 holes. Arizona (301-285) fired a team field-low 3-under 285 and trails its' Pac-10 rival by one stroke while finishing the day in second place. Texas A&M (299-290) rounds out the top three positions on the team leaderboard at 13-over 589, and holds a 10-stroke advantage over fourth-place TCU (298-301=599, +23).

POST-ROUND QUOTES
Head Coach Martha Richards
On the team's final six holes: We have played and practiced out here in a lot of wind, but we didn't look like it today. It was disappointing for me, and I'm sure it was disappointing for the team, too. You hope that preparing for those conditions will make it an advantage and not a disadvantage. I also have to factor in that four of these student-athletes have never played in high winds on this course in a tournament setting. This is a learning experience, and we'll be better because of it.
On her overall impressions: I'm really pleased with what I'm seeing. We fought hard and carried ourselves with a tremendous amount of composure through some very tough conditions this afternoon. These last six holes here can really separate teams on the leaderboard, and that showed today.
