BYU
Head Coach Gordon Eakin
Opening statement:
On the way freshman Hannah Howell pitched: That was big for Hannah to do what she did being a freshman that lived two hours from here watching the Texas program as she grew up. It was a big stage for her and she did a great job for us. She is capable of pitching better than she did today.
On the importance of not having to play again today: For us, being mountain people, it's huge to get out of the heat. Being able to go back and rest, and to not have our pitching staff throw another game in this heat, is huge.
3B Angeline Quiocho
On her grand slam and errors in the field: The girls did a good job of getting on base and I thought I should do my job in scoring them. As for the defense, it was ugly. Fortunately our pitchers and our hitters came through.
2B Kristin Delahoussaye
On Blaire Luna coming back in to pitch later in the game: Once you've seen her so many times, you just go up there thinking about what she did to you before and get the pitch that you know she's going to give to you and just try to drive it in the gap.
TEXAS
Head Coach Connie Clark
Opening statement:
On the decision to put P Blaire Luna back in the game: Blaire's our ace and that's something that we've talked about down the stretch. There's going to be opportunities in the postseason where we're going to ride her as long as we can.
On whether the foul ball out at the end of the game should have been caught: Absolutely not. If it's foul, you let it drop and you take your chances with your pitcher.
C Amy Hook
On whether they thought at any moment that they had the game won: I don't think so. Both sides kept punching back and forth. On offense we had to stay pretty confident that we could score, but on defense we needed to be more confident to hold them off the bases. I don't think anybody throughout the entire game thought that the game was over at any point.
SS Loryn Johnson
On their mindset going into the rest of the tournament: We have a great team, and I think with leadership we can take care of these things ourselves and find a way to battle back. It's a good advantage to be at home.
