Kutrovsky falls in NCAA singles quarterfinals

ATHENS, Ga. -- Texas senior Dimitar Kutrovsky closed his Longhorns career Saturday with a three-set defeat to Louisville's 19th-ranked Austen Childs in the singles quarterfinals at the 2010 NCAA Tennis Championships.
Childs posted a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 win to move on to Sunday's singles semifinals. Kutrovsky had an opportunity to prolong the first set, but with Kutrovsky serving 4-5, Childs registered a service break that finished off the set, 6-4. Kutrovsky broke Childs at 5-all in the second set and held serve in the ensuing game to claim the second set, 7-5.
Childs broke Kutrovsky to assume a 3-1 lead in the third set. Both players held serve the rest of the way with Childs serving out the final game to finish off the set, 6-3.
Kutrovsky ends his Texas career as a three-time ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) singles All-American, and he also earned his first ITA doubles All-America honor this season alongside classmate Josh Zavala. Kutrovsky finishes as the winningest player in school history with 230 combined singles and doubles wins.
