Former Longhorn LeCure makes Major League Baseball debut

AUSTIN, Texas - Sam LeCure made his Major League Baseball debut last Friday, May 28, becoming the 98th player to finish his collegiate career as a Longhorn and go on to appear in a Major League game.
The Cincinnati Reds' right-hander allowed two runs on six hits and four walks while striking out five over 6.0 innings to earn the win in a 15-6 victory over the Houston Astros.
LeCure, a fourth-round pick by the Cincinnati Reds in 2005, was called up when Homer Bailey went on the disabled list with an inflamed pitching shoulder. Prior to his call-up, LeCure was 5-2 with a 2.55 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 60.0 innings with the Triple-A Louisville Bats.
The Jefferson City, Mo., native went 14-3 during his two-year career on the Forty Acres. He went 5-0 with a 3.74 ERA in 2003 and in 2004 he went 9-3 with a 2.34 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 123.0 innings to earn All-Big 12 honorable mention.
LeCure became the 14th player to finish his collegiate career as a Longhorn and go on to appear in a Majlr League game in the last nine years. Over that span, a Texas Exes has made his Major League debut in every season, including Jose Flores in 2002, Stephen Randolph in 2003, Scott Dunn, Brad Halsey and Phil Seibel in 2004, J.P. Howell, Omar Quintanilla and Huston Street in 2005, Brandon Fahey in 2006, Curtis Thigpen in 2007, Taylor Teagarden in 2008, Drew Stubbs in 2009 and James Russell and LeCure in 2010.
Lecure is married to former Longhorns softball standout and current volunteer assistant coach Megan Willis.
