Soccer bounces back for 2-1 win over Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. - After falling behind in the 13th minute of action, the Texas Longhorns responded with a pair of first-half goals to record a 2-1 win over the Missouri Tigers at Walton Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Missouri (9-5, 1-3) drew first blood in the 13th minute when Haley Krentz took a long feed from Kaysie Clark and launched a shot from 25 yards out, sneaking the ball between the hands of a leaping Alexa Gaul and the top of the woodwork for a 1-0 lead.
The Longhorns notched the equalizer in 22nd minute. Taylor Knaack worked the ball down the right flank and sent a cross into the box. Hannah Higgins redirected the pass to Lexi Harris who sent a rope into the back of the net from 10 yards out to knot the game at 1-1.
Texas (8-4, 2-2 Big 12) gained the lead in the 37th minute with Higgins instigating the action for her second assist of the game. Higgins pelted a shot on goal from the left flank. Missouri's goalkeeper. McKenzie Sauerwein made the save but was unable to collect the ball. It bounced out to Allison Smith who sent the ball into the goal past the sprawled out netminder.
Alexa Gaul made four saves in goal for Texas to earn the win.
The Longhorns owned a 21-17 advantage in shots and a 11-5 edge in shots on goal.
Texas returns to action on Friday when the Longhorns host the Oklahoma Sooners in a 7 p.m. contest at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
