THE MATCHUP — Following a three-match road swing, the Longhorns return home to host former conference foe Baylor at Mike A Myers Stadium on Thursday. The Longhorns have played the Bears on 33 occasions, tied for the most head-to-head meetings in Texas' program history. Located 100 miles apart, the two rivals have squared off 30 of the last 31 seasons on the pitch. The Longhorns boast a 18-10-5 lead in the all-time series, including wins in six of the last eight matchups.
LOCK IT DOWN — Texas has notched three clean sheets through their first four matches under head coach Margueritte Bates. The 2026 Longhorns are only the second Texas team to have conceded a school-best one goal through four contests alongside the 2008 squad. The Longhorns have yielded just 11 shots on goal. Meanwhile, senior Bayliss Flynn became only the second Texas goalkeeper to record back-to-back shutouts in their first two starts as a Longhorn in the program's illustrious 33-year history, joining Dana Hall in 2003.
GRAND WAY TO FINISH TO THE ROAD TRIP — Alicia Riggins recorded her first goal in burnt orange, as Texas secured a 1-0 win over Grand Canyon at GCU Stadium on Sunday evening. In a physical contest that featured 24 combined fouls, Riggins' strike in the 48th minute proved to be the difference. The 5-foot-4 forward corralled a lofted feed from fellow junior Ashley Moody just inside the box. Riggins controlled the ball at her feet, took a couple touches along the 18-yard line and rifled a shot into the bottom-right corner of the net. Defensively, Texas blanked the Lopes for the first time this season. Grand Canyon, which had scored two goals in each of its first two contests, was held to only two shots on target. The Longhorns also totaled seven corner kicks, while limiting the Lopes to two.
THE VILLARREAL DEAL — A two-time All-SEC Second Team honoree, Amalia Villarreal has become a stalwart for the Longhorns during her two-plus years on The Forty Acres. Across 47 career matches, the junior has notched 50 points. Villarreal has scored 20 times and dished out 10 assists, posting at least eight tallies in each of her first two seasons. The Lansing, Mich., native tied the second-longest goal-scoring streak (five matches) in program history, matching Niki Arlitt (Sept. 14-28, 2007), Trinity Byars (Oct. 13-30, 2022) and Lexi Missimo (Oct. 10-27, 2024). Last year, she registered the seventh-most goals per game (0.47) in the SEC. Villarreal came off the pitch for 16 total minutes in 2025, etching her name in the program's record book along the way. Against Vanderbilt on Sept. 26, the Lansing, Mich., earned the No. 7 spot on SportsCenter's Top 10 plays on her first goal of the evening. With 10 seconds left in the tilt, Villarreal slotted a penalty kick, which marked the latest regulation goal to win a match in program history. As a rookie in 2024, she was tabbed the SEC Freshman of the Year. In conference action, she led all freshmen with 14 points, collecting five goals and four assists. Overall, Villarreal was one of just four SEC players with at least nine tallies and eight assists, joining teammate Lexi Missimo, Arkansas' Ava Tankersley and South Carolina's Catherine Barry.
HOME SWEET HOME — Texas owns a 45-13-9 (.739) record at Mike A. Myers Stadium since the start of the 2020 season. Texas has managed to win double-digit contests at home in three of the last four years, highlighted by a 10-1-2 campaign in 2024. Overall, the Longhorns have posted a 198-64-28 (.731) ledger at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
