GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- Former Longhorn outfielder Jordan Danks advanced with Team USA to the Pan American gold medal, after a 12-10 win over the 10-time defending champion Team Cuba on Monday night. With the win, Team USA has an opportunity to win its first Pan Am gold medal in baseball since 1967.
Danks, who was the leadoff batter, went 2-5 and scored one run. During the four games Team USA has played in the Pan Am games, Danks is batting .357 with a double, a triple, a home run, and 2 RBI.
In 2007, Danks secured a silver medal at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on a Team USA squad of collegiate athletes. He led that team by scoring 37 runs in 35 games with a .287 batting average and 12 RBI. This is the first time since 1999 that Team USA is fielding a team of professional players.
During his time at Texas, Danks was recognized as part of the second-team All-Big 12 Conference squad, and was given All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2007. He lead the 2008 Longhorns with 70 runs, 22 doubles and seven triples, and had the third-highest batting average, .321.
Danks spent the 2011 season with the Charlotte Knights, the Triple-A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, who drafted him in 2008. He hit .257 with 24 doubles, six triples, 14 home runs, 65 RBI and 18 stolen bases.
Team USA will face Canada at 9 p.m. Central Tuesday night with the gold medal on the line. Detailed Pan Am information and live scoring can be found at: www.USABaseball.com. Twitter updates can be found at: @USABaseball.
