TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Texas Women's Cross Country team concluded the 2011 season with a 26th place finish at the NCAA Championships Monday in Terre Haute, Ind.
"We didn't get out to a good start in the race," said cross country coach Steve Sisson. "When you don't get out into a position where you can move up then it is really hard to be competitive. We didn't execute the plan we wanted to and that is why we didn't get the results we wanted."
A pair of sophomores from Dallas, Sara Sutherland and Megan Siebert, were the top two runners for the Longhorns. Sutherland came in 96th overall with a time of 20:59.4 while Siebert ended up in 126th with a time of 21:13.9.
Junior Laleh Mojtabaeezamani was the third fastest for Texas, the highest finish on the team for her this season. Her time of 21:24.6 was good for 153rd overall. She was followed by sophomore Marielle Hall, who was three spots behind her in 156th, crossing the finish line in 21:25.0.
The fifth scorer for the Longhorns was Julie Amthor with a time of 21:46.4 for 188th overall. Also running for UT were freshman Jourdan Ellis (238th) and sophomore Brittany Marches (243rd).
The 6K race took place at the Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind. with 31 teams competing for the national championship. The team title went to Georgetown while Villanova senior Sheila Reid won the individual title with a time of 19:41.2.
