EKURHULENI, South Africa -- Texas Men's Golf signee Brandon Stone made the 72-player cut at the South African Open Championship on the European Tour Friday afternoon with a second-round score of 3-under-par 69. Stone, the top-ranked amateur in South Africa by the South African Golf Association, carded a two-round 2-under 142 (73-69) and is tied for 56th place at the halfway point.
Stone shaved four strokes off of his opening-round 73 at the Serengeti Golf Club on Thursday with a scorecard that included six birdies and three bogeys. He birdied the 17th hole for the second-straight day to make the cut right on the line.
The 2012-13 Texas signee is one of just two amateurs to advance to weekend action at the SA Open Championship.
Steven O'Hara holds the 36-hole lead at 11-under 133 while Merrick Bremner and Retief Goosen are tied for second place at 134.
