No. 9 Volleyball downs Kansas, 3-2

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The ninth-ranked Texas Volleyball team used a career-high 17-kill performance by sophomore outside hitter Bailey Webster to knock off Kansas, 3-2, Saturday night. The 25-20, 18-25, 25-19, 16-25, 15-8 victory improved the Longhorns to 16-4 on the season and 9-1 in Big 12 play, while the Jayhawks dropped to 13-12 and 1-11 in league action.
Webster hit at a .308 clip in the win and posted a career-high three solo blocks and equaled a season-high with six total blocks. Senior All-America middle blocker Rachael Adams and freshman outside hitter Haley Eckerman joined Webster in double figures with 12 kills apiece. Adams hit .444 and added five total blocks in the victory.
After trailing early in the first, Texas used a 3-0 run paced by a pair of Webster kills to claim a 16-15 edge that it did not relinquish. The Horns led 21-20 late in the set and closed out the frame with a 4-0 run headlined by a kill and a block by freshman middle blocker Khat Bell that ended the set 25-20.
In the second, Kansas captured an early advantage and blew the set open with a 6-0 run that gave the Jayhawks a 23-14 lead. KU then closed out the set 25-18 on a pair of kills by Caroline Jarmoc.
Webster registered two kills and two solo blocks to open the third set for the Horns and a 6-0 rally fueled by two service aces by freshman Madelyn Hutson gave UT a 17-8 edge. A kill by Adams forced set point at the 24-13 mark, but Texas was forced to fight off a 6-0 KU run before closing the stanza, 25-19.
Texas fell behind 6-1 to open the fourth and Kansas did not relent, pushing the margin to nine at the 18-9 mark before clinching a 25-16 set win.
A double-block by Allison and Adams stated Texas to a 4-1 lead to start the fifth and a pair of kills by Webster allowed UT to take hold of the set at the 12-6 mark. Another kill and a solo block by Webster sealed the set for UT and propelled it to a 15-8 win.
Texas returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 9 when it travels to Texas Tech. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. Central.
