AUSTIN, Texas - Texas junior diver Drew Livingston took second place in the one-meter diving event and nailed down a berth to compete at the NCAA Championships Friday at the NCAA Zone "D" Diving Meet at UT's Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
Livingston, the 2009 NCAA champion in the one-meter diving event, totaled 743.95 points for second place through the event's two sessions. With Zone "D" being allocated seven men's berths to qualify for the NCAA Championships, the top-three finishers in the men's one-meter event were set to lock up NCAA berths.
Texas A&M's Grant Nel won the event with 785.60 to lock up the first berth, while the Aggies' Cam McLean took third with 713.60 points to nail down the third available berth on Friday. Texas freshman Will Chandler placed 12th with 585.50 points.
Freshman William McCraney was disqualified from the competition after incorrectly executing his first two dives. Chandler and McCraney would lock up NCAA Championships berths with top-three finishes in the three-meter diving event, which will be contested on Saturday beginning at 4:15 p.m.
