AUSTIN, Texas - Texas junior diver Drew Livingston easily outdistanced the competition and claimed the three-meter diving event Saturday evening on day two of the NCAA Zone 'D' Diving Meet at UT's Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. The meet is one of five such zone meets across the country that give divers their only opportunities to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Livingston, who punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships with his one-meter performance on Friday, was victorious in Saturday's three-meter event with 882.80 points. Missouri's David Bonuchi qualified for the NCAA Championships by taking second with 807.15 points. Texas A&M's Grant Nel, who also had qualified for the national meet on Friday, took third with 802.90 points.
Minnesota's Andrew Brown joined Missouri's Bonuchi to qualify for the NCAA Championships by placing fourth in the three-meter event with 741.80 points. Texas freshman Will Chandler took eighth place overall with 690.05 points. UT freshman Will McCraney placed 19th with 290.70 points.
Two more NCAA Championships berths remain available from Zone D. UT's Chandler and McCraney would automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships with top-two finishes in Sunday's platform diving event, which gets underway at 2:30 p.m. Central time.
