Texas posts pair of national-leaders at UCF Black & Gold Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. -
Just a week after finishing second at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Longhorns opened the outdoor season with a strong showing at the UCF Black & Gold Challenge, Saturday afternoon. Texas posted 13 personal-bests while boasting the nation's top two times in both the 200m and the 400m hurdles.Freshman Allison Peter led a trio of Longhorns to finish 1-2-3 in the 200m with her nation-leading and personal-best time of 23.22. It is the fastest time in the event by a Horn since Alexandria Anderson in 2009. Junior Stacey-Ann Smith also PR'd, with her 23.27 for second place, followed by freshman Briana Nelson in third (23.76).
Freshman Danielle Dowie also posted a nation-leading time with her 57.33 to win the 400m hurdles. Junior Angele Cooper came in second in 58.08.
A pair of Longhorns also won their events in the middle distances with junior Julie Amthor winning the 800m in a personal-best 2:09.76 and freshman Marielle Hall clocking a 4:35.98 to win the 1,500m.
Junior Amanda Van Dyke posted her first 50+ foot shot put in her outdoor career to finish second overall (50-0.5).
Up next for the Longhorns is the Victor Lopez Bayou Classic in Houston on March 25-26.
