Women's Swimming and Diving finishes sixth at NCAA Championships

AUSTIN, Texas -- Paced by a fourth-place swim from Karlee Bispo in the 100 freestyle, and another top-eight relay finish, the Texas Women's Swimming and Diving team placed sixth at the 2011 NCAA Championships on Saturday night at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
California won its second NCAA team title in the past three years with a total of 424 points. Georgia was second with 394.5 points, and Southern California finished third with 351. Stanford was fourth with 272 points, followed by Arizona with 266.
The Longhorns totaled 232 points during the three-day competition.
Wendy Trott, a junior from Georgia, won the first event of the night -- the 1,650 freestyle -- with a time of 15:40.32.
Katharine Riefenstahl collected the first points for the Longhorns on Saturday, finishing 15th in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:54.65. Maggie Meyer of Wisconsin won the title with a first-place finish of 1:50.76.
Bispo, who competed in the maximum seven events during this three-day competition, added a fourth-place finish in the 100 freestyle to her meet accomplishments. Bispo finished in 48.02, while Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace of Auburn won the title in 47.07.
Laura Sogar earned 13 points for UT with a sixth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke. Sogar finished in 2:08.32, while Haley Spencer of Minnesota claimed first place in 2:06.12.
Leah Gingrich finished 16th in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:57.89. Katinka Hosszu of Southern California won her third individual title of the meet with a first-place finish of 1:51.69.
Sophomore Maren Taylor qualified for the championship platform diving final, but withdrew during the second round with an injury. Senior Shelby Cullinan placed 14th in the B Final with 289.95 points. Brittany Viola of Miami won the platform crown with 354.25 points.
UT concluded the final session with a sixth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. Bispo swam the leadoff leg in 48.19, followed by Kelsey Amundsen in 48.23. Bethany Adams completed her split in 48.44, and Samantha Tucker anchored in 48.91
