AUSTIN, Texas - No. 6 Texas (12-4) swept the doubles matches and added a three-set singles win from senior Kellen Damico, but No. 2 Virginia (18-0) went on to post a 5-2 victory over the Longhorns Sunday afternoon at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Texas opened with a win at third doubles from Vasko Mladenov and Daniel Whitehead over the Cavaliers' Julen Uriguen and Steven Rooda. The Horns opened up a 4-0 lead in the match and never looked back en route to an 8-4 victory. The match at first doubles featured UT's fifth-ranked tandem of Ed Corrie and Jean Andersen against Virginia's third-ranked duo of Drew Courtney and Michael Shabaz. UVA's eighth-ranked Shabaz put the Cavaliers on the board with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Corrie at first singles, and the Wahoos took the lead for good at fourth singles, where the 32nd-ranked Courtney posted a 7-6, 6-2 win over UT's Mladenov. Texas' 90th-ranked Damico split his first two sets with UVA's 37th-ranked Jenkins at second singles and trailed 3-0 in the final set before rallying to sweep the remaining games and win the match, which cut the Virginia lead to 3-2. But, the Cavaliers' Uriguen clinched the victory for Virginia after rallying for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over UT's Daniel Whitehead at fifth singles. Virginia's Justin Shane closed out the match with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over UT's Holiner at sixth singles.

POST-MATCH COMMENTS
Texas head coach Michael Center
"We practiced really well the last couple of days. We've had some injuries and have not been able to put everyone out there. But, we got out to a good start and played some good doubles. We got off to a good start in singles and won four first sets with a chance to get five. We're not sustaining our level enough, physically or mentally, and that's disappointing. Any time you can win the doubles and four first sets, you feel like you have a great chance to win, and we just didn't get it done."
