Austin – No. 1 Texas Men's Tennis had four student-athletes receive All-SEC accolades, while head coach Bruce Berque was named Coach of the Year for the second-straight season, the conference announced Thursday.
Senior No. 2 Sebastian Gorzny was selected First Team All-SEC, freshman No. 37 Kalin Ivanovski and sophomore No. 35 Sebastian Eriksson were tabbed to the Second Team, and freshman Lucas Marionneau was chosen to the All-Freshman Team.
For Berque, it is the third-straight and fifth overall coach of the year award in his time at Texas after taking home the honor last season in the SEC, and in 2019, 2021 and 2024 in the Big 12. He has guided the Longhorns to a 24-6 overall record this year with a 12-2 conference mark, leading to back-to-back outright SEC regular season championships and tournament championships for a total of four titles in Texas' first two years in the league. Berque also led this year's team to a program first in winning the ITA National Indoor Championship in February. In reaching No. 1 in the ITA team rankings this season, the Longhorns are one of just two teams to have been ranked No. 1 at some point during the season in five of the last eight years, along with Ohio State.
It marks the second-straight year Gorzny has received first-team honors in the SEC after having been a two-time Second Team All-Big 12 honoree in doubles at TCU. Gorzny, who matched his career-high ITA singles ranking of No. 2 this week, was also just selected the MVP of the SEC Championship, along with being chosen to its All-Tournament Team. Earlier in the year, he had been named Most Outstanding Player of the ITA National Indoor Championships and All-Tournament Team at No. 1 singles. A two-time SEC Player of the Week this season, Gorzny is 24-6 overall in singles, including 18-4 in dual matches and 7-2 in SEC play, playing at No. 1 in every match he played in. Six of his wins have been against top-15 opponents with 12 against the top 50. He is also 22-13 overall in doubles, 18-10 in dual matches, primarily with Marionneau in dual matches split between Nos. 1 and 2, along with being 8-5 in the SEC. That duo has reached as high as No. 13 in the doubles rankings and has four top-20 wins, including one over the No. 1 pair.
Ivanovski joined the Longhorns in January and has risen as high as No. 19 in the ITA singles rankings. Despite being limited by injury throughout the season, he has posted a 9-6 singles record, all in dual matches at No. 2, including seven ranked wins with six in the top-100, three in the top-50 and two in the top-25. He also has two top-75 doubles victories. A member of the ITA National Indoor Championships All-Tournament Team at No. 2 singles, he clinched the overall match against No. 1 Ohio State to secure the program's first title.
Eriksson has obtained a season-high singles ranking of No. 25, while posting a 19-10 overall record, 12-7 in dual matches at Nos. 2, 3, and 4, and 7-2 in the SEC. He has 10 ranked singles wins with four in the top-75 and two in the top-50. He has a 17-7 overall doubles record, is 14-6 in dual matches with five different partners mostly at No. 3, and was 9-3 in the SEC. His four ranked doubles wins include two in the top 10. Earlier this year, he was a member of the ITA National Indoor Championships All-Tournament Team at No. 4 singles.
Marionneau was also on the ITA National Indoor Championships All-Tournament Team at No. 6 singles. The SEC Freshman of the Week on March 25, he has compiled a 26-10 overall singles record, is 18-3 in dual matches at mostly at No. 6, along with Nos. 4 and 5, and was a perfect 11-0 in singles in the SEC.
