No. 4 Men's Swimming and Diving holds slim lead after day one of NCAA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Four top-five individual finishes and a pair of top-six relay finishes highlighted day one for No. 4 Texas Thursday evening at the 2011 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at The University of Minnesota.
The Longhorns ended the first of three days of competition in first place with 139points. Stanford sits in second with 136 points, and California holds third place with 134 points. Auburn is in fourth place with 110.5 points, and Arizona is in fifth place with 99 points.
Texas opened the evening by taking sixth place in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1 minute, 17.03 seconds. Junior Jimmy Feigen led off in 19.01 before senior Scott Jostes picked up the second leg in 19.71. Sophomore Dax Hill split a relay-best 18.85 on the third leg before junior Neil Caskey anchored in 19.46. The Longhorns had qualified third in the event's preliminary round at 1:16.66 with a relay featuring Feigen, freshman Charlie Moore, sophomore Austin Surhoff and Hill.
Junior Jackson Wilcox scored his second career All-America finish in the 500 freestyle, where he took fourth in 4:15.85. Notably, Wilcox moved from sixth place to fourth place with a 24.02 split on the last 50 yards, good for the single-fastest split among all eight swimmers in the final. Sophomore Michael McBroom took eighth overall in 4:21.03 after qualifying in a personal best of 4:16.14 in the preliminary round.
Surhoff added 15 points for the Horns by taking fourth in the 200 individual medley in 1:43.58. Sophomore Nick D'Innocenzo placed third in the 200 IM consolation final in 1:44.51. Feigen added yet another All-America finish in a sprint freestyle event, as he took third overall in the 50 freestyle at 18.97. Cal's Nathan Adrian claimed the event in an American record time of 18.66.
Junior Drew Livingston notched his third one-meter diving All-America finish in as many seasons, as he placed third with 413.20 points. Livingston earned one perfect score of 10 among the seven judges on his second dive, a forward three-and-a-half somersault.
Texas capped the evening by taking second in the 400 medley relay in 3:06.10. Sophomore Cole Cragin led off in 45.92 before senior Scott Spann split 51.72 on the breaststroke leg. Caskey split 46.68 on the butterfly leg before Feigen anchored in 41.78.
