AUSTIN, Texas - No. 8 Texas (15-6, 1-2 Big 12) collected singles victories from Ben Chen, Jean Andersen, and Daniel Whitehead but No. 13 Baylor (14-3, 3-0 Big 12) claimed a 4-3 victory over the Longhorns Wednesday evening at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
At first doubles, Texas' Ed Corrie and Andersen held serve to open the match before the Bears' Roberto Maytin and John Peers broke the Horns and assumed a 2-1 lead. The two sides held serve throughout the match until Baylor, leading 7-5, broke the Horns' serve once more to take the match, 8-5. At second doubles, UT's Kellen Damico and Vasko Mladenov held a 6-3 lead over Baylor's Sergio Ramirez and Jordan Rux, but the Bears took the next five games to win the match, 8-6. The match at third doubles featuring UT's Chris Camillone and Whitehead against Baylor's Julian Bley and Kike Grangeiro progressed to a tiebreaker, where the Horns prevailed, 7-6 (4).

Trailing 3-1 in the final set, Andersen broke Rux's serve, held serve and broke Rux once more to take a 4-3 lead. At 5-4, Andersen held serve to take the set, 6-4 and even the match at two.
Baylor, however, would claim the next two decisions to take a 4-2 lead and clinch the victory. At first singles, UT's 59th-ranked Damico took the first set, 6-3, but Baylor's 18th-ranked Peers took the second set, 6-4. Peers went on to take the final set, 6-0 to extend the Baylor lead to 3-2. Moments later, Baylor's Ramirez finished off a 6-4, 6-2 win over UT's Corrie at second singles to clinch the Baylor win. UT's Whitehead finished off Baylor's 81st-ranked Dennis Lengsfeld by a 6-4, 6-3 count in the evening's last match to finish.
Texas resumes Big 12 play on Sunday, April 10 when it hosts Texas Tech at 2:30 p.m. Central.
POST-MATCH COMMENTS
Texas head coach Michael Center
"We had our opportunities and just didn't capitalize upon them. That has kind of been our story lately. We had opportunities in the doubles, and I thought we had opportunities in the singles, but we just didn't finish. We had some great performances tonight. Ben Chen was just outstanding, I thought Daniel Whitehead and Chris Camillone were terrific at No. 3 doubles. We were right there, but until we start sustaining it all the way through the match, we're going to come up a little short. That was a disappointing loss because it knocked us out of the conference chase. We're just fighting for positioning the rest of the conference season."
