Austin – Texas Men's Tennis earned two Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Awards, the organization announced Tuesday. Sebastian Gorzny was named Senior Player of the Year, while Benjamin Becker was Assistant Coach of the Year.
Gorzny's selection marks the third time in the last four years a Longhorn has been National Senior Player of the Year, following Micah Braswell in 2024 and Eliot Spizzirri in 2023.
This season, Gorzny and Becker helped take Texas to an NCAA National Runner-Up finish, a second-straight Final Four, the program's first ITA Indoors National Championship, and back-to-back sweeps of the SEC regular season and tournament titles.
An ITA All-American in singles, Gorzny finished ranked No. 2, which is the fourth-straight year Texas has had a top-two player, and he was the Most Outstanding Player of the ITA National Indoor Championships, and the Most Valuable Player of the SEC Championship, while also being named First Team All-SEC for the second-straight year.
Gorzny compiled a 26-8 overall record in singles, a 20-6 mark in dual matches, all at No. 1, and was 7-2 in the SEC. As part of that, he registered seven top-15 victories and 13 top-50 wins. He was also second on the team in overall clinches with seven.
Becker joined the Texas program last season and seamlessly integrated himself into the program's culture with tremendous connections to the members of the team. Along with this year's team accolades, he helped Texas to a second-straight 29-win season, which ties for the most by the program since 1975, along with the 2019 team.
Becker assisted Gorzny through his tremendous season, while last year, he helped guide freshman Timo Legout to reach No. 1 in the ITA singles rankings and to the ITA National Player of the Year award. He was also named the SEC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year and SEC Tournament MVP. Legout compiled a 35-3 overall singles record, including 22-2 in dual matches, all at No. 1.
