Men's Swimming & Diving falls short in matchup of top two teams

TUCSON, Ariz. - In the matchup between the top two teams in Men's Swimming & Diving, the second-ranked Longhorns came up short on the road as No. 1 Arizona came away with a 155-88 victory on Saturday.
Texas falls to 4-2 in dual meets while the Wildcats remained unbeaten at home. Despite most things going Arizona's way this time around, the Longhorns did put together some strong performances with wins in three events.
The distance swimmers dominated the 500 and 1000 free for Texas. Michael McBroom swam a 9:16.20 in the 1000 free for first place while Jackson Wilcox was second and Jake Ritter third to take the top three spots in the event. Later on Wilcox won the 500 free with a time of 4:28.53 with McBroom coming in second, Ritter third and Kyle McNeilis fourth to claim the top four positions.
In diving Matt Cooper continued his hot streak by winning the 1-meter competition. He scored 384 points to win by nearly 20 points. Drew Livingston was third in the event. Cooper also finished second on the 3-meter board with 400.43 points while Will McCraney was fourth.
Senior Jimmy Feigen also had a good day for the Longhorns, taking second place in both the 50 freestyle (20.00) and the 100 freestyle (44.55). Freshman Clay Youngquist was a bright spot in the 200 freestyle with a second place swim of 1:38.12.
Next up for the Longhorns will be a dual meet with Texas A&M on Friday, Feb. 3, the final meet before the Big 12 Championships which take place Feb. 22-25 in Columbia, Mo.
