TEAM NOTES
- Senior Day: A group of 17 seniors, including nine scholarship players, took the field at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium tonight for the final time. As a class, these players have helped UT post a 36-16 record (.692), win a Big 12 title and make an appearance in the BCS National Championship game. This class will also make its third bowl appearance at the end of this season. Ten members of the senior class have combined to play in 408 games and start in 110 contests, including WR Marquise Goodwin (48 games/21 starts), TE D.J. Grant (24 games/six starts), RB Jeremy Hills (41 games), P Alex King (11 games), TE Barrett Matthews (49 games/10 starts), RB D.J. Monroe (47 games/five starts), DE Alex Okafor (50 games/31 starts), OT Luke Poehlmann (39 games/three starts), FB Ryan Roberson (50 games/three starts) and S Kenny Vaccaro (49 games/30 starts). TE Jackson Crawley, DE/DS Michael Cruciani (one game played), RB Heath Hohmann (one game played), TE Trevor Leeson, WR Jaren Nickleson, LB Brad Terry and S Matthew Zapata have all been valuable senior members of the scout team. In addition to the seniors, former players DeSean Hales, Cody Ramirez and Taylor Silguero, who all now serve as student assistant coaches, were recognized before kickoff.
- Playing on Turkey Day: Texas has played 76 times on the Thanksgiving holiday and owns a 51-23-2 (.684) record. The Longhorns faced Texas A&M in 64 of those contests, posting a 43-19-2 mark. Texas has also faced Oklahoma, Arkansas, Notre Dame and Baylor, among other teams. Texas has played the last five years on Thanksgiving after taking a break for 12 years (1996-07). The Longhorns have gone as long as 17 consecutive years (1957-73) playing on Thanksgiving.
- TCU Series: In their first-ever meeting as Big 12 foes, TCU snapped a four-game Texas winning streak in the series. The Longhorns had won 28 of the last 29 in the series and now lead 61-21-1. The Horns had also won the last 15 at home in the series, dating back to 1967.
- Holding onto the Ball: The Longhorns entered the game third in the nation in fewest turnovers committed with eight, but Texas suffered three turnovers in the game which led to 14 points for TCU. Texas allowed its first points off turnovers since the Oklahoma game when TCU scored a TD following David Ash's first-quarter interception. The Longhorns entered the game outscoring the opposition 77-10 off turnovers. The Horned Frogs had one turnover.
- Defense Closes Strong: The Texas defense, which surrendered just 299 total yards in the game, was especially tough in the fourth quarter. TCU gained minus-3 yards over the final four drives.
