Four Longhorns earn 2012 All-Central Region honors

AUSTIN, Texas - Four members of the University of Texas Volleyball team earned 2012 AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division I All-Central Region honors as announced today. Bailey Webster and Haley Eckerman earned their second straight region honor while Khat Bell and Sha'Dare McNeal earned their first-ever region honor. All four players are now eligible to earn All-America status when the awards are announced next Wednesday (Dec. 12).
This is the fifth time in UT history since the awards began in 1996 that the Longhorns have had at least four players earn all-region status (1990, 1993, 2007 and 2008).
Eckerman, the reigning Big 12 Player of the Year, leads the team with 456 kills (4.51 kps) this season while hitting. 300 with 41 assists (0.41 aps), 41 aces (0.41 saps), 215 digs (2.13 dps) and 521.5 points (5.16 pps).
Webster is second on the team with 371 kills (3.75 kps) while hitting .345 with 81 blocks (0.82 bps) and 423.0 points (4.27 pps).
After recovering from a season-ending knee injury last year, Bell rebounded this season and has 190 kills (2.13 kps) while hitting .325 as she leads the Longhorns with 123 blocks (1.38 bps).
McNeal, a senior, has been a versatile player as she has posted 180 kills (1.88 kps) while hitting .341 with 72 assists (0.75 aps), 18 aces (0.18 saps), 235 digs (2.45 dps), 79 blocks (0.82 bps) and 243.0 points (2.53 pps).
