Women's Golf in sixth place after second round at NCAA East Regional

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Texas Women's Golf team remains in the hunt for its fourth NCAA Championship appearance in the last five years with a 36-hole total of 20-over-par 596 (296-300) that ranks sixth in the 24-team East Regional field at Penn State Blue Course.
The No. 11-seed Longhorns enter Saturday's final round five shots ahead of the team cut line to advance to the NCAA Championship. Arizona (302-296=598, +22) and Washington (296-303=599, +23) are in seventh and eighth places, respectively.
The top-eight team finishers and top-two individuals not playing on the eight qualifying teams at each of the three regional qualifiers will earn bids to compete at the 2012 NCAA Women's Golf Championship from May 22-25 at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., hosted by Vanderbilt.
Junior Katelyn Sepmoree maintained her tie for 24th place on the individual leaderboard with a 2-over 74 for the second-consecutive day. Her team-best round included birdies on the 12th and 17th holes and four bogeys. Sepmoree's 4-over 148 is one stroke behind team-leader Nicole Vandermade (72-75) who is currently tied for 13th place at 3-over 147.
Freshman Bertine Strauss (73-78) is tied for 47th place at 7-over 151. Juniors Haley Stephens (77-75=152) and Desiree Dubreuil (79-76) round out the squad tied for 55th and 77th places.
No. 8 seed South Carolina (288-294) holds the second-round lead in the team standings at 6-over 582. Top-seed Alabama (292-297) is second at 13-over 589, while No. 5 seed Florida (294-297) rests in third at 15-over 591.
The Longhorns are scheduled to tee off Saturday's final round beginning at 7:36 a.m. Central on the 10th tee alongside fourth-place Texas A&M (296-296=592) and fifth-place Duke (302-293=595).
