Singapore — Texas women's golf junior Farah O'Keefe and Team USA captured the World Amateur Team Championship at the Tanah Merah Country Club in Singapore on Saturday.
O'Keefe along with Catherine Park from USC and Megha Ganne from Stanford made up the US team that won gold. Team USA tied with the Republic of Korea and Spain at 18-under par and won on a tiebreaker. The format consisted of four rounds in which each country counted their top two scores each day.
O'Keefe, ranked No. 7 on the world amateur golf ranking list, finished T11 on the individual leaderboard with a tournament score of 6-under-par.
The Longhorns were represented by five players in the prestigious event. Lauren Kim finished T29 with Canada, Cindy Hsu finished T54 with Chinese Taipei, Selina Liao finished T65 also representing Chinese Taipei and Vivian Lu finished 81 with New Zealand.
"I'm incredibly proud of Farah for helping Team USA capture the World Amateur Team Championship," Texas head coach Laura Ianello said. Watching Lauren represent Canada, Vivian represent New Zealand and Selina and Cindy represent Chinese Taipei was truly inspiring. These five ladies are the best of the best from their countries and I'm honored they all wear the burnt orange."
The Longhorns have Angela Heo, Alisa Inprasit and Emma von Hoffman competing in the Put Me in Coach Invitational Oct. 6-7 and pick up the fall schedule Oct. 17-19 at the Stanford Intercollegiate.
