LONDON - Former Texas outside hitter Destinee Hooker (San Antonio, Texas) and the United States Women's Volleyball Team earned the silver medal at the 2012 Olympics, losing in a four-set match against Brazil (25-11, 17-25, 20-25, 17-25). Hooker, who was the top kill and point producer for the U.S. in the tournament, finished with 13 kills and 14 points in today's gold-medal match.
Hooker provides UT with its fifth silver medal of the Olympics to go with five gold and two bronze medals as compiled by current or former Longhorns. She is the second Texas women's volleyball play to have played in the Olympics (Demetria Sance, 2000) and the first Longhorn women's volleyball player to earn an Olympic medal.
