No. 9 Volleyball tops No. 6 Wisconsin at Moody Center

Longhorns earn first Top-10 win of season in front of second-largest crowd in program history.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 9 Texas Volleyball defeated No. 6 Wisconsin in four sets, 21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-16, in front of 10,294 fans Sunday afternoon at Moody Center, the second-largest crowd in program history.
After splitting the first two sets, Texas (4-4) took control in the third with a 9-2 run that turned a 10-10 tie into a 19-12 lead. The Longhorns then pulled away late, hitting .419 in the fourth set to secure the win.
Cari Spears matched her season and career high with 18 kills, hitting .326 in the match and tying for the match lead with three aces. Nya Bunton added career highs of 13 kills and 25 attacks while hitting .480, along with two blocks and a dig.
Torrey Stafford recorded her third double-double of the season with 16 kills and 11 digs. Rella Binney posted her fourth double-double of the year with a match- and career-high 44 assists and a career-best 21 digs, while Ramsey Gary led all players with 25 digs. Anja Kujundzic added a season-best three aces.
Wisconsin (4-4) controlled the opening set early, building a 13-8 lead before Texas cut the deficit to 20-18. The Badgers answered with three of the next four points and closed out the set, 25-21. Texas responded in the second, using a 5-1 run to break a 15-15 tie and take a 20-16 advantage before evening the match at one set apiece.
The third set proved to be the turning point. After the teams were tied at 10-10, Texas scored nine of the next 11 points to take a 19-12 lead. Wisconsin pulled within four at 20-16, but the Longhorns finished the set with five of the final nine points to take a 2-1 lead.
The Longhorns opened the fourth set with a 7-3 lead and extended the advantage to 12-5. Wisconsin never got closer than six points the rest of the way as Texas held the Badgers to a .188 hitting percentage in the set to close out the match, 25-16.
The win marked Texas' first victory over a Top-10 opponent this season and snapped a two-match skid. It was the third consecutive Top-10 matchup and the fourth in the Longhorns' last five matches. Texas has faced seven ranked opponents through its first eight matches this season.
Texas improved to 9-5 all time against Wisconsin, winning four of the last five meetings. All five of those matches have been played since the start of the 2021 season.
Texas returns to action Friday, Sept. 25, at No. 19 Tennessee before traveling to Lexington to face No. 3 Kentucky on Sunday, Sept. 27.
