Hansen wins third relay Olympic gold medal

LONDON -- Texas ex Brendan Hansen earned his third Olympic relay gold medal on Saturday, as the United States won the 4x100m medley relay at the Aquatics Centre.
The United States closed out the victory with a time of 3:29.35. Japan took the silver medal in 3:31.26, and Australia finished third in 3:31.58.
Hansen also won gold medals in the 4x100m medley relay at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. He earned a bronze medal earlier this week in the 100m breaststroke.
Matt Grevers swam the opening backstroke leg, followed by Hansen with the breaststroke. Hansen kept the Americans virtually even with Japan as Michael Phelps entered for the butterfly. Nathan Adrian then closed out the victory in the final freestyle lap.
The United States entered the relay final with the best qualifying time of 3:32.65.
Hansen retired from swimming after the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but returned to the sport in early 2011. He punctuated his return with a dramatic victory in the 100m breaststroke at the Olympic Trials in June, and Hansen has now added two medals in London.
