AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Cross Country enters the heart of its 2013 season when it travels to Madison, Wis., for the fifth-annual Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 19. The men's 8,000-meter and women's 6,000m races will take place at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course at 11 a.m. and Noon (Central), respectively.
The adidas Invitational will be the final tune-up ahead of the Big 12 Championships and features a 36-team field on the men's side and a 37-team field on the women's. Twenty of the top 30 men's teams in the nation as ranked by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, along with 16 of 30 on the women's side, will compete in Wisconsin this weekend.
The Texas men were ranked 14th in the most recent USTFCCCA poll. Running Saturday will be Ryan Dohner, Chris Galvin, Craig Lutz, Nate Moore, Will Nation, Mark Pinales, Eduardo Rodriguez, Austin Roth, Collin Smith, Brady Turnbull and Blake Williams.
Competing for the No. 29 Longhorn women will be Katie Burford, Kaleigh Ervin, Marielle Hall, Brittany Marches, Hannah Novelli, Alaina Perez, Katie Ruhala, Megan Siebert and Connor Ward.
The UT men's squad placed fourth out of 45 teams with 267 points at the 2012 adidas Invitational with Lutz as the Longhorns' top 8K finisher in 12th place (23:38). This marks the first year the women will contend in Madison.
Texas has competed in three meets so far in the 2013 season, all of them in the Lone Star State. The Longhorns opened the season at the Baylor Bear Invitational in Waco on Aug. 30, where the men placed second and the women third. Both the men and women went on to sweep the Ricardo Romo Invitational in San Antonio on Sept. 20 before taking home titles at the Texas Invitational in Round Rock on Sept. 27.
The Longhorns enter the championships portion of their season following this weekend's meet. The Big 12 Championships will be held Saturday, Nov. 2 and the NCAA South Central Region meet will follow on Friday, Nov. 15, with both meets being hosted by Baylor in Waco. The NCAA Championships will take place Satuday, Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.
