Lindsey Meyer nets her fourth goal of the season in the 86th minute to lead the Longhorns on Friday in Stillwater.
STILLWATER, Okla. – Lindsey Meyer picked up her fourth goal of the season, an 86th-minute equalizer, to help No. 25 Texas Soccer to a 1-1 draw against Oklahoma State on a chilly, wet Friday night at Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
With less than five minutes to play in regulation and the Longhorns down a goal, Kelsey Shimmick sent a cross from the right side of the 18-yard box toward the far post that Meyer put away with her left foot from five yards out. The score would hold for the remainder of the second half and the teams followed with two scoreless overtime periods to take the Longhorns to 10-4-2 on the season and 4-1-1 in the Big 12.
It was a scoreless first 45 minutes of play with Texas holding a solid advantage in possession and controlling the pace of the match. Sharis Lachappelle got off the first shot of the game in the fourth minute from just beyond the top of the 18-yard box that was saved by OSU keeper Michela Ongaro. Lachappelle also represented the Longhorns' closest scoring chance of the opening period, a free kick from 30 yards out in the center of the field that bounced off the crossbar and over the end line in the 33rd minute. Abby Smith was threatened only once during the period with a shot that came inside the 18 on the left side in the 43rd minute and she picked up the save.
Things kicked into gear in the second half with the Longhorns creating back-to-back corner kick opportunities on three separate occasions. Oklahoma State got on the board in the 52nd minute when Krissi Killion found Courtney Dike streaking down the right side in transition and Dike sent a kick on the ground toward the far post past keeper Abby Smith. Following the goal, Texas continued to keep pressure on the OSU back line but was unable to find the back of the net until Meyer's 86th-minute equalizer.
The first overtime period saw one shot for each team and closed with another set of back-to-back corners for the Longhorns in the final minute. The teams traded possession in the second overtime with Smith making a key save in the 105th minute to preserve the tie.
Texas outshot Oklahoma State (5-3-6, 1-1-3 Big 12) 16-10 in the game and put eight shots on goal to OSU's three. The Longhorns also carried a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks.
UT's starters played 1,170 of 1,210 minutes with only two players coming off the bench for Texas in the match.
The Longhorns return to Austin on Sunday for their final regular-season home game at 1 p.m. and will honor Gabby Zarnegar and Brenda Saucedo on Senior Day. Longhorn Network will televise the match live.
