Track and Field adds three to 2013-14 roster

Fabian Dohmann, Nick Phynn and Andrew Whyte will join the Longhorns for the spring semester.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Track and Field head coach Mario Sategna announced the addition of three student-athletes to the men's squad for the 2013-14 academic year. Fabian Dohmann (Fernando de la More, Paraguay), Nick Phynn (Kingston, Jamaica) and Andrew Whyte (Otago, New Zealand) will join the Longhorns for the spring semester.
Dohmann is a multi-year national champion in javelin in his native Paraguay with a personal record of 236 feet, 8 inches (72.14 meters) in the event. He has been ranked as high as eighth among the South American youth ranks (2010), third as a junior (2012) and eighth among seniors (2013). Dohmann holds the Under-16 school javelin record in the javelin (167-8/51.10m) as well as in the 4x100m relay. He was the Pan American junior school javelin champion in 2010 with a throw of 201-1 (61.29m) and qualified in the event on behalf of Paraguay for the South American Championships as a youth in 2010, a junior in 2011, among the U-23 ranks in 2012 and as an adult in 2013.
Phynn arrives on the Forty Acres with personal bests of 24-7.75 (7.51m) in the long jump and 49-3 (15.01m) in the triple jump. He was the long jump champion at the 2013 Jamaican National Junior Championships with a mark of 23-11.75 (7.31m) in June. Prior to that, he placed second at the Penn Relays in the high school division long jump with a distance of 23-10.75 (7.28m). Phynn's triple-jump accolades include a second-place finish at the Jamaican High School Track and Field Championships with a leap of 49-1.5 (14.97m).
Whyte comes to Texas as a specialist in the 400m with a personal-best time of 46.25 seconds, also competing in the 4x400m relay and 200m. A transfer from Otago University, where he was named the 2013 Otago Athlete of the Year under coach Brent Ward, he is the New Zealand junior record-holder in the 400m with a mark of 46.91 set in 2011. After reaching the 400m semifinals at the 2012 World Junior Track and Field Championships in Barcelona, Whyte won the Open Men's New Zealand title in the event in 2013 and placed second in the 200m.
