Head Coach Michael Center
On winning the doubles point: We've struggled in our doubles play this year and we've talked about turning momentum around a lot of times. Too often this year we've lost that point. Now we had the opportunity to take that momentum and really go after UNC in the first sets. I thought we did a good job of that tonight. I think we got four first sets. We put some pressure on them early. The guys did a really good job taking on the victory from the doubles and pushing hard in the singles.
On Sudanwa Sitaram and David Holiner's comeback wins: Those guys are good fighters. They are good competitors. I thought they made some adjustments. I was over there with Sudanwa and David. I thought they made some adjustments with their game. I thought mentally they hung in there and didn't get down on themselves, which is easy to do when you get behind. I think these guys are learning how to compete from the first to last point. That's an emphasis in practice and it's nice to see it come to fruition out here in a real match.
On Soren Hess-Olesen competing against his twin brother, Esben, in the number one singles spot: I told him to focus on playing for the team today. I knew it was going to be a challenging situation for both of them. They are very close and I knew it would be awkward. I tried to block it out as best I could. I know he did, too. I told him at the end that I was really proud of him. It was a tough situation for him and he hung in there. He fought. He gave himself a chance. He probably didn't play the best tennis that he thinks he can play and that I've seen him play, but give Esben credit. I was just proud of the way he conducted himself.
Sophomore Lloyd Glasspool
On winning 12 of his last 14 singles matches: I've put in a lot of hard work, and that seems to be paying off. I want to keep building and keep winning, but it's been going pretty well so far.
On tonight's result in advance of Friday's match against No. 1 Virginia: It's good to have everybody play well. That's always a good thing. We didn't win all of the matches, but we were really close. This gives us a lot of confidence going into Friday.
Sophomore Soren Hess-Olesen
On his performance at No. 3 doubles tonight: It felt good to be back in the doubles lineup. I think we got a little bit unlucky and we should have won our match. We can't throw away some of those opportunities, but it feels good. I feel like I am getting better at doubles. That always prepares you for singles as well.
On playing his twin brother Esben Hess-Olesen in No. 1 doubles: As I expected, it was weird to play my brother today. Of course I am disappointed right now, but on the other side, he got a good win. But we won as a team and that's what matters. We won as a team, and 6-1 is a really good result. I am happy with the progress we are making.
On the team's mindset heading into Friday's match against Virginia: This result builds confidence. It always builds confidence to win. I can't wait to play Virginia and face the top team in the country. I know I am going to play a really good player, so it's all about being mentally prepared for going out there to play my best. It's going to be a great match.
