AUSTIN, Texas - The UT Tower will be drenched in burnt orange lighting on Thursday, March 14 in recognition of The University of Texas men's and women's swimming and diving teams' Big 12 Conference titles (March 2).
Per UT tradition, the campus landmark is bathed in burnt orange lighting from top-to-bottom when a University of Texas athletics team wins a conference championship.
Under first-year head coach Carol Capitani, the ninth-ranked Texas women won their 11th Big 12 Conference crown with 1,051 points at the conference meet in Austin. Capitani was selected as the Women's Swimming Coach of the Meet, while Matt Scoggin was named as the Women's Diving Coach of the Meet.
Meghan Houston and Maren Taylor shared the honor of Women's Diver of the Meet. The Longhorn divers wrap up their NCAA qualifying meet Wednesday afternoon in Houston. UT's NCAA qualifiers will compete at the NCAA Championships beginning March 21 in Indianapolis.
The second-ranked Texas men won their 34th consecutive conference title under 35th-year head coach Eddie Reese, who was selected as the Men's Swimming Coach of the Meet at the Big 12 Championships. The Men's Swimmer of the Meet honor went to senior Dax Hill, and freshman Cory Bowersox was tabbed as the Men's Diver of the Meet. Freshman Sam Lewis was named as the Men's Newcomer of the Meet.
Texas' NCAA swimming qualifiers are expected to be announced Wednesday afternoon. Bowersox and Will Chandler qualified for the NCAA Championships at the ongoing NCAA Zone "D" Diving Meet in Houston. The Longhorns' NCAA qualifiers will compete at the NCAA Championships beginning March 28 in Indianapolis.
