AUSTIN, Texas - No. 7 Texas Women's Track & Field returns to Austin to host the Texas Invitational on Saturday, April 13, at Mike A. Myers Stadium. This weekend's meet will be the first of two home meets for the Longhorns in as many weeks.
WHO'S COMPETING
In addition to No. 7 Texas, the eight-team, non-scored meet will feature a pair of Big 12 foes in No. 14 Texas Tech and No. 24 Baylor, as well as Cal State Northridge, Houston, UT-San Antonio and Texas State.
Competing for Texas will be seniors Mia Behm, Kendra Chambers, Chalonda Goodman, Anne Jones, Natasha Masterson and Alicia Peterson; juniors A'Lexus Brannon, Marielle Hall, Katie Hoaldridge, Brittany Marches, Briana Nelson, Sara Sutherland and Christy Udoh; sophomores Chamique Francis, Jessica Harper, Kaitlin Petrillose, Megan Siebert, Morgan Snow and Connor Ward; redshirt freshmen Marissa Lee, Marissa Pekarek and Alaina Perez; and freshmen Claire Andrews, Bernice Bamgbade, Katie Burford, Caroline Cartwright, Kiersten Duncan, Kendall Howen, Melissa Gonzalez, Cody McCrary, Megan McGhee, Courtney Okolo, Meghan Shea.
LAST WEEKEND AT THE FLORIDA RELAYS
Texas sent a squad of 14 to Gainesville, Fla., to compete in the sprints, relays and field disciplines at the 69th Pepsi Florida Relays April 5-6. Kaitlin Petrillose was the Longhorns' top finisher, tying for second in pole vault after notching a new personal best of 4.21 meters the previous weekend at the Texas Relays. Danielle Dowie was third in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.95 seconds, and Dowie joined Briana Nelson, Kendra Chambers and Courtney Okolo on UT's third-place 4x400m relay team, which crossed in 3:27.95.
LAST YEAR AT THE TEXAS INVITATIONAL
The 2012 edition of the Texas Invitational was a successful one for the Longhorns, who notched wins in four events and posted five times that were top among the collegiate competitors in the collegiate/invitational races. Senior pole vaulter Natasha Masterson will look to defend her 2012 title, while Christy Udoh (200m), Briana Nelson (400m) and Morgan Snow (100m hurdles) return as the top collegiate competitors in their respective events at last year's meet.
IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Fourteen of UT's marks through its first three meets of the outdoor season currently rank in the top 20 nationally with eight of them landing in the top 10.
The Longhorn 4x400m relay team of Danielle Dowie, Briana Nelson, Kendra Chambers and Courtney Okolo holds the No. 2 time in the nation of 3:27.65, just .22 behind No. 1 Florida. Dowie joins Morgan Snow, Christy Udoh and Chalonda Goodman on UT's 4x100m relay team, which holds the No. 3 ranking with a time of 43.59.
Snow ranks fourth in the 100m hurdles with her season-best time of 12.90, set at the Texas Relays. Rounding out Texas' national top-five marks are Dowie in the 400m hurdles (fifth, 56.58) and Shanay Briscoe in high jump (6-0/1.83m).
LEADERS IN THE WEST REGION
Two of UT's marks currently lead the nation in the West Region rankings. Sophomore sprint-hurdler Morgan Snow continues to hold the No. 1 spot in the 100-meter hurdles with a mark of 12.90, set at the Texas Relays. The Longhorns' 4x400m relay team of Danielle Dowie, Briana Nelson, Kendra Chambers and Courtney Okolo are also first in the regional rankings, having posted a 3:27.65 at the Texas Relays.
